Oxy has been an active investor in Colombia for more than four decades. Currently, Oxy has operations in the Llanos Norte Basin of the Arauca province near the Venezuelan border, and in the Middle-Magdalena Basin in the Santander province.
In Arauca, Oxy operates the giant Caño Limón oilfield, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008. Oxy's discovery of the Caño Limón field in 1983 enabled Colombia to become an oil exporter after many years as a net importer. Oil produced in the Llanos Norte Basin is transported through the Caño Limón-Coveñas pipeline operated by Colombia's national oil company, Ecopetrol.
In the Middle-Magdalena Basin, Oxy holds working interests in the La Cira-Infantas (LCI) field. LCI is an enhanced oil recovery project with large remaining reserves.*
*The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission permits oil and gas companies in their filings with the commission to disclose only reserves anticipated to be economically producible as of a given date by application of development projects to known accumulations. We refer to "recoverable oil reserves" and “hydrocarbons in place” that the commission guidelines strictly prohibit us from using in our filings.
